Innocent and overworked Starbucks employees may pay the ultimate price for former CEO Howard Schultz’s announcement that he’s considering launching an independent bid for President.
According to a Wednesday Huffington Post report, Starbucks’ current management sent employees directives on how to deal with customers who might be interested in, angry about or eager to debate about Schultz’s presidential plans.
Here’s a sampling of the advice:
If a customer attempts to investigate, or share aggressive political opinions, attempt to diffuse the situation by sharing:
We respect everyone’s opinion. Our goal is simply to create a warm and welcoming space where we can all gather, as a community, over great coffee.
If asked about Howard’s political intentions:
Howard’s future plans are up to him.
I quit?
We need to pressure the corporate office. This “we don’t have a political opinion” is bs that they hope will deflect the stink off of them. Let them know you will boycott if he runs.
But still no answer to why does your coffee taste like burnt grass? Still using that bitter billionaire roast?
I hope the Starbucks employees don’t have to take grief. It would be so wrong. But if there is a large boycott, they will be hit. Sad that this asshole Schultz is so stupid and damaging. He’s creating damage from the ground up. What a guy.
