Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s (D-MI) “your mom” smackdown of Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) didn’t just go viral — it’s also being used as a fundraising plea by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

The confrontation came Friday as Senate Finance Committee members debated a Kyl amendment to a health care bill that would have struck language that defined which benefits employers are required to cover.

“I don’t need maternity care,” Kyl said. “So requiring that on my insurance policy is something that I don’t need and will make the policy more expensive.”

Stabenow: “I think your mom probably did.”

The next day, the DSCC sent out an e-mail signed by Stabenow that reprinted the exchange, saying it “perfectly shows what worldview we Senate Democrats are fighting against.”

Stand with us as we defend the Senate from this draconian mindset. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is only 5 days away from its end-of-quarter fundraising goal. We still need to raise $378,623 in order to defend our Democratic majority. If you give today, a group of senators will match your gift dollar-for-dollar, doubling your impact.

The DSCC thanks you. And a lot of moms, including me, thank you, too.

Of course, Stabenow’s hardly the first pol to piggyback on a viral video to raise cash. But it’ll be interesting to see how “your mom” fundraising stacks up against “you lie” fundraising. When Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) yelled that out during President Obama’s speech to Congress earlier this month, both Wilson and his opponent Rob Miller raised more than $1 million over the outburst. Could “your mom” be a million-dollar line too?

And if you haven’t seen the Stabenow video yet, you can check it out here.
