GOP Senate candidates Linda McMahon (R-CT) and former Rep. Rob Simmons (R-CT) both commented today on Sen. Chris Dodd’s (D-CT) announcement that he will not seek re-election, each asserting that it does not change their strategy for the campaign at all.

On MSNBC, Linda McMahon said that the announcement “absolutely doesn’t change my candidacy at all.”

She continued: “Clearly I’m running as an outsider and not as a career politician for this race. I think that Washington needs new faces and new blood, people with real life business experience.”

McMahon was also asked about Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who’s expected to announce his own candidacy for Dodd’s seat. She replied: “Blumenthal has provided good service for our state, but he’s also a career politician, and Washington needs a change.”

“It doesn’t change my campaign plan or my strategy at all,” said McMahon.

Simmons also appeared on MSNBC, and had a similar take on the race: “Just because you change the face, you don’t change the race,” he said. “It’s really the issues that have people upset here in Connecticut.”

He continued: “I think the biggest challenge is actually going to be to the attorney general,” who “has not been in a tough race for many years.”

“I am up on the issues, I think I’m right on the issues,” said Simmons.
