White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders accused CNN of referring to President Trump and his supporters as “evil” “day-in, day-out” when a reporter asked if Trump calling Democrats “evil” was an appropriate insult following the targeted pipe bomb deliveries to Democrats and CNN this week.
“Yesterday, the very first thing that the President did was come out and condemn the violence. The very first thing your network did was come out and accuse the President of being responsible for it,” she told reporters on Thursday. “That is not okay. The first thing should have been to condemn the violence.”
CNN did have guests on the air discussing Trump’s rhetoric and whether his criticisms and violent language contributed to someone targeting the Obamas, Clintons, CNN and the others throughout the day on Wednesday. But network hosts’ initial response to the explosive device was to report the news while they were evacuated from the building.
