Getting antsy waiting for The Daily Show and The Colbert Report to return from their holiday hiatus? The New York Times‘ Brian Stelter reports some exciting news in the meantime: the shows could soon return to Hulu.

The shows were removed from Hulu — the popular online television viewing website — last March, Stelter reports, because Comedy Central and Hulu could not agree to a fair distribution price.

But now the two companies are reportedly back negotiating their return. Stelter reports that Comedy Central insisted upfront payments for their shows, because they claimed users who watched The Daily Show or The Colbert Report would stay to watch other videos on Hulu. None of Stelter’s anonymous sources would comment on the upfront payments, but Hulu’s new paid monthly subscription could help sweeten the deal.

Both programs are scheduled to return with new episodes Monday. Read TPM’s top five Stewart/Colbert moments from 2010 here.
