Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) said that while President Donald Trump is “hopeful” that the bipartisan committee can reach a funding deal before February 15, he is “resolute” and fully ready to act alone should it fail.

According to a Monday Washington Post report, the two had a private lunch Sunday where Trump aired his feelings.

Any hope for broader immigration reform legislation seems largely dashed at this junction. “He wants as simple of a solution as we can get,” Perdue told the Post, adding that it’s not “realistic” to hope for more complicated fixes in a three week window.

The White House has not ruled out another shutdown when the weeks are up, and Trump is openly mulling declaring a national emergency to help get his border wall with or without Congress.
