Last night, Gov. David Paterson (D-NY) reiterated that rumors that the New York Times has a “bombshell” that could potentially drive him from office are “salacious and outrageous,” and he called on the paper to “clear the air.”
Over the past few weeks, media outlets have been reporting that the Times will publish a profile that contains a scandalous revelation about the governor.
On Larry King Live last night, Paterson denied that such a revelation exists, and said the Times should “clear the air and at least say the charges being made are not in the parameters of our investigation.”
He also described the situation as “a Kafkaesque scenario,” and added that he would think “human decency, if not journalistic ethics, I think, would compel an organization, when they see a person being slandered for over two weeks now,” to set the record straight.
When King asked if he has any plans to resign, Paterson replied: “Larry, when you hear I’ve resigned, it means you’ve been invited to my funeral.”
He also noted that his plan to announce his reelection bid also remains unchanged.
