President Barack Obama will address Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens’ retirement during his Rose Garden remarks this afternoon.
The president was already scheduled to speak at 1:20 p.m. ET about the West Virginia coal mine accident.
A White House official confirms that the president will now also address Stevens’ retirement.
A Supreme Court representative delivered Stevens’ retirement letter to the White House at 10:30 a.m. today.
White House Counsel Bob Bauer spoke with the president — who was on Air Force One — about fifteen minutes later to tell him about the letter.
