LEE, Maine (AP) — Dozens of law enforcement officers converged on this small northern Maine town on Friday as they searched for an armed man in a stolen logging truck following the overnight shootings of four people in three different communities.

Anthony Lord, a convicted sex offender, was being sought in the shootings in the towns of Lee, Benedicta and Silver Ridge, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Police didn’t identify the victims or provide information about their conditions.

The manhunt focused on the town of Lee, where police set up roadblocks to keep people out. A command post was set up at Lee Academy, a secondary school 60 miles northeast of Bangor.

Residents weren’t panicked by the police presence.

“We’re pretty well armed around here,” said James Knealand, who works at Lincoln Pulp & Paper and lives near a police checkpoint in Lee.

Police planned an afternoon news conference to provide more details about the victims and the search for Lord, 35, who is believed to be from the Houlton and Crystal area and is considered armed and dangerous.
