Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump and adviser on the Trump campaign, is endorsing a push by the inspector general of the VA to investigate medical experiments on dogs.

According to a Wednesday USA Today report, attention to the issue comes as a result of lawmakers’ actions: some signed a letter demanding that the practice stop until a study can show the need for experiments, while some are calling an end to them altogether.

During the experiments, scientists have done surgeries on dogs’ hearts and spines to find solutions for veterans suffering from cardiac, spinal cord and breathing illnesses.

Trump called the experiments “cruel and ineffective.”
