Fox Business Network host Trish Regan, who just launched her new primetime show with Fox, pressed President Trump on Tuesday evening about why he wasn’t “tougher” on Russian President Vladimir Putin during their infamous press conference in Helsinki.
Trump responded by claiming he was “tough” on Putin and suggested their one-on-one meeting went “great,” without offering any details about what was discussed. He then blamed the media for overblowing their coverage of the press conference, during which Trump publicly accepted Putin’s denial of election meddling.
Regan — who, at the time, criticized Trump for his behavior during the presser, calling the event “unpatriotic” — pressed Trump several times to explain what the two world leaders actually discussed during their private meeting, the contents of which are still largely veiled in secrecy. Trump gave a vague answer, saying he lectured Putin about meddling and said the “stupid investigation” was ruining U.S.-Russia relations.
