Jon Stewart had some fun last night with the ongoing scandal surrounding Solyndra — a green tech company the Obama administration praised and gave a $500 million loan guarantee.
The company went belly up earlier this month, was raided by the FBI and has opened up the White House to attacks from the right.
“So does the failure of one company discredit the entire idea of a green energy economy?” Stewart said. “Of course not. But if in, let’s say, 1936, you spoke about the growing importance of air travel in front of, I don’t know, the Hindenberg, you’d be right about the future of air travel, but you’d be on fucking fire!”
“Oh, the stupidity!” he added.
So just how big of a scandal will this be? Stewart has one indication. “Fox News, call your doctor. Because the erection you currently have is going to last longer than four hours.”
Who will have the last word on the Solyndra scandal? Stewart asked. That would be Vice President Joe Biden, who, on the groundbreaking of the Solyndra plant, said the company would create 1,000 “permanent” jobs.
“You know, Joe, I hate to say this, but there’s really no such thing as a permanent job.”
