Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, would consider supporting a gay nominee to the Supreme Court, The Hill reports.
President Obama is expected to nominate someone to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens in a matter of weeks.
“I’d have to think about that,” Cornyn told The Hill, when asked about the possibility of a gay nominee. “As long as it doesn’t interfere with their job, it’s not a particular issue.”
Cornyn added that he was looking for a candidate who was “satisfied with being an umpire and doesn’t want to be a player.”
