Conservative columnist Mark Steyn mocked Democrats during an interview on “Fox and Friends” Thursday, claiming the party would prefer to have a “Muslim transgender” candidate as its frontrunner in 2020, but will have to “make do” with former Vice President Joe Biden.
“They’re looking for something more intersection,” Steyn told Fox co-hosts during a segment discussing a piece in Vanity Fair about how former President Barack Obama’s pursuit of candidates in 2020 has left Biden in the dust. “They really would like a Muslim transgender candidate, but they will have to make do with Joe Biden.”
“The problem with Biden is it’s not Obama’s fault anymore that it was last time,” he continued. “You can’t do this sort of Hamlet on the battlements, ‘Oh, I’d like to run if you want me to run.’ People who want to be president get out there and run and become president.”
Obama has met with a few Democrats, like Beto O’Rourke, who rose to national prominence during his midterm bid against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), as the party prepares to pick a frontrunner for the 2020 election.
