Stephen Colbert last night celebrated the one-year anniversary of conservative commentator Lou Dobbs’ departure from CNN by explaining how he’s since absorbed Dobbs’ audience and opinions.
“Because just like in punditry, as in The Highlander, there can be only one,” Colbert said.

But now that Dobbs has landed at Fox Business Network, Colbert was left in need of a new TV personality to emulate. Luckily, Today‘s Gene Shalit left the program just in time.
So Colbert went through another Highlander-like transformation, absorbing Shalit’s signature puns … and mustache.
“Welcome to The Colbert Report,” he said, in his new character. “Hopefully this episode is not a Colbert Re-bore, that makes you makes Colbert Re-snore. Okay, now let’s get to the news before it’s old.”
