Tim Pawlenty isn’t the only one with an over-the-top, action film trailer of a campaign video.
“I was so inspired by Pawlenty standing by Walker standing against the unions that I had to stand with them by making my own ad,” Colbert said on his show Wednesday night, referring to an ad Pawlenty made in suport of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s push to strip state employees of their collective bargaining rights.
Colbert’s ad, complete with quick scene cuts, stirring music, and glowing filters emulated the same epic videos Pawlenty’s campaign has become known for.
“Taxes are bad. Fireworks are pretty,” Colbert intoned over images of Katy Perry, and scenes from movies including Star Wars and Jaws.
