Allies of former Vice President Joe Biden have launched a super PAC called “For the People” to financially smooth his path to the White House — despite his insistence that he “does not welcome” super PAC assistance.

According to a Saturday Hill report, the effort is being helmed by Democratic fundraiser Matt Tompkins and intends to flood different media markets with ads.

“Vice President Biden does not welcome assistance from SuperPACs,” Biden communications director Kate Bedingfield told The Hill.

This puts Biden in a tight spot, as most of his Democratic competitors have pledged not to accept big PAC money.

But Tompkins insists that rejecting the help is akin to playing by different rules than President Donald Trump will.

“While this entity will come as a surprise to some, it is no surprise that Democrats must fight within campaign finance laws as they exist, not as they wish they did,” said Tompkins. “You won’t win in 2020 by unilaterally disarming.”
