The Tennessean, which has been covering the controversy surrounding a proposed mosque near Murfreesboro, Tenn., came out with a long story this weekend about the money in the “anti-jihad” industry.
Most interesting is how Steve Emerson, a self-proclaimed expert on Sharia law, has set up his charity and his for-profit enterprise.
As The Tennessean reports, Emerson’s tax-exempt, nonprofit charity Investigative Project on Terrorism Foundation gave almost all of its income to Emerson’s for-profit endeavor, SAE Productions. In 2008, the charity gave SAE $3.4 million.
By doing so, the charity doesn’t pay any salaries directly, and therefore, doesn’t list its employees. And because SAE is a privately held company, it doesn’t have to disclose details, either.
Emerson is one of a group of people who believe that Muslims are conducting a “stealth jihad” in America, and that 80 percent of American mosques are lead by clerics who want to impose Sharia, or Islamic, law over the Constitution.
