If only those jeers of “cold, hard cash!” were the worst he had to deal with.

As part of their ongoing bribery investigation into Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA), Justice Department prosecutors have subpoenaed e-mails from the congressman, Roll Call reports this morning.

The Feds want messages dated prior to Aug. 3, 2005, when the FBI raided his home and car. Jefferson, who the FBI has taped accepting a briefcase full of cash, and who was discovered to keep $90,000 cash in his freezer, is suspected of taking bribes from companies wanting favors from the Louisiana congressman. One of Jefferson’s aides and a businessman have already pleaded guilty and are cooperating with investigators.
