The defense lawyer for Osama bin Laden’s driver, Salim Hamdan, claimed Monday that secret evidence shows that Hamdan aided the U.S. by providing “critical details” in the early days of the war in Afghanistan regarding the search for Osama bin Laden. The revelation came during closing arguments at the first military commission at Guantanamo Bay. (New York Times)

The issue of influence peddling among state judges may reach the Supreme Court next year if the court accepts a petition filed by Harman Mining, who is represented by Ted Olson. Influence peddling has gained attention recently due to unprecedented sums of money getting poured into campaigns for state judges. (ABC)

Malcolm Webber, the leader of the Kaweah Indian Nation, will appear in court today facing charges related to defrauding immigrants by claiming that tribal membership conferred U.S. citizenship. Webber, who is 70, faces seven counts. (AP)

Newly released documents show the Bush administration may have recorded interrogations that Guantanamo Bay detainees had with foreign intelligence and law enforcement teams. These documents suggest the Bush administration has a vast amount of video of conversations between detainees and representatives from close to three dozen countries. (Washington Post)

Defense lawyers for Cyril Wecht went to an appeals court yesterday to argue that Wecht should not have to face a retrial. A former Allegheny County Coroner, Wecht was accused of using his public office to benefit his private practice. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)
