After a two-year battle, Kyle Sampson — the former chief of staff to then-Attorney General Alberto Gonzales who was caught up in the legal and political scandal that grew out of Gonzales’ term in office — has won his fight for a law license in the District of Columbia.
The National Law Journal‘s David Ingram reports that Sampson was admitted to the D.C. Bar on Dec. 6.
Members of the D.C. court system’s Committee on Admissions, writes Ingram, “opposed admitting Sampson to the D.C. Bar while he was caught up in investigations related to his time at the Justice Department, including a criminal inquiry into the firings of nine U.S. attorneys.” The investigation into the firings of the U.S. attorneys wrapped up over the summer.
Sampson, a partner at Hunton & Williams, did not respond to Ingram’s request for comment. Meanwhile, three other Hunton & Williams partners are facing an ethics complaint for their work investigating liberal activists who were defending WikiLeaks.
