Fundraising Group Led By GOP All-Stars Falling Short Of Goals

American Crossroads, formed by some of the GOP’s biggest names with the aim of helping the party win the 2010 midterms, launched a few months ago with an ambitious $52 million fundraising goal. So how much did the group pull in in May? A whopping $200.

According to Politico, the May numbers bring the total raised since March to a little over $1.25 million. After boasting in April that donors had already pledged $30 million to the cause, the money appears to be slow in coming to the 527 group backed by Karl Rove, Republican consultant Ed Gillespie and former RNC Chairman Mike Duncan.

“We spent our first six weeks building a structure that our donors want to see in place, and now we are at the stage where the checks will begin catching up with increased commitments,” American Crossroads president Steven Law told Politico, adding that he expected the group to have a solid June.
