Two brothers of the Virginia man who allegedly threatened to blow up the Metro system could end up heading to jail, too, because of a gun and marijuana were found when FBI agents searched their home.

A recent court filing by a lawyer for Awais Younis noted that federal prosecutors mentioned in a detention hearing that both marijuana and a gun were found in his home. The lawyer argued that since neither of the items were in his possession and he hasn’t been charged, the pot and the gun shouldn’t be allowed to be mentioned in the case. According to a filing by his lawyer, “his brother(s) have been specifically charged with these items.”

It turns out that after the feds found the marijuana and the gun in the home, they called in local authorities, who ended up filing charges against both of his brothers, Fawad Younis and Danish Younis.

Danish Younis is charged with possession of a gun with a schedule I-II drug, according to court records for the Arlington County General District Court. Fawad Younis is charged with the sale and distribution of marijuana, court records said.

“It wasn’t related in any way to their investigation, so they called in the locals,” lawyer Thomas Abbenante, who is representing Fawad Younis, told TPM in a phone interview. “The search warrant that the agents had was a search warrant to search the house.”

Abbenante said over three pounds of marijuana were found in the house and that he just received a copy of the search warrant for the house on Tuesday. A lawyer for Danish Younis did not respond to a message. Both brothers have hearing set for Feb. 25.

Awais Younis allegedly sent threatening Facebook messages to a woman who reported it to the New Orleans FBI office. A lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
