The White House expressed doubts Thursday that the Egyptian people welcome the return of Hosni Mubarak, the deposed former president who is expected to be released from prison and placed on house arrest.

“The revolution from 2011 in Egypt is still fresh in the minds of the Egyptian people,” White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said during a gaggle on Air Force One, as quoted by a pool reporter. “There is little desire evident on part of the Egyptian people that they want to turn back the clock to the Mubarak regime.”

As a revolution swept through Egypt in 2011, President Barack Obama pressured Mubarak to step down.
