  1. Lord forgive me, but I am wondering if the press will treat this as an opportunity to regurgitate Hillary e-mail items? Cringe.

  2. Don’t know if anyone saw, but the shooter who was killed last night was Micah Xavier Johnson, an army veteran. http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-dallas-police-shooting-20160708-snap-story.html

A lot of news organizations are shortening his name to Micah X. Johnson. Since they never shorten the middle name of other shooters, I think the implication being made is clear. We should be careful that if we feel the need to use his middle name, we use the whole name, not just the initial.

  3. Just finding out about this story. Is is cruel to hope that the gun was legally purchased? OMG, I just cannot get my mind around this. I lived through the DC Sniper event years ago and I always been afraid that there would be another sniper some day. (spelling edit)

  4. WaPo and CNN have used Micah Xavier Johnson, SF Chronicle and Dallas Morning News using Micah only, no middle initial or name. Haven’t seen a source yet using initial X. Texas pols are thinking and praying however, that’ll help.

@geofu54 npr.org using full name, no initial. Once it’s established who exactly he is they’ll probably lose any reference to the middle name.
