Mitt Romney’s opposition to the Dream Act is already becoming a PR problem for the candidate. At an event in New York City Tuesday night, Mitt Romney was confronted by a Dreamer, Lucy, an immigrant who came to the U.S. as a child and would be allowed a path to legal residency and even citizenship under the Dream Act. They had the following exchange before it was cut off:

Lucy: “Are you going to support the DREAM Act?”

Romney: “I already said, across the country, I would veto the Dream Act.”

Lucy: “I’m undocumented. I want to know then, why are you not supporting my dream?”

Romney: “Because if someone comes here illegally…”

Lucy: “But I didn’t come here illegally, and I have a 4.0 GPA”

Romney: “that’s wonderful…”

A video of the incident also shows protestors with signs about “vetoing Romney” outside the event and Lucy discussing how the Romney crowd had booed her. Video of Romney and the GOP being hostile to young immigrants will surely be toxic in the Latino community.
