Real estate mogul Donald Trump is no longer planning to attend a Wednesday fundraiser for the Republican National Committee, according to reports.

Time and Politico reported late Monday that the Republican presidential candidate’s plans to attend the RNC Presidential Trust Dinner in New York City had changed. Hours earlier, Trump issued a widely condemned statement that called for a “total and complete shutdown” of Muslim immigration to the U.S.

RNC spokesman Sean Spicer told CNN that the decision for Trump not to attend the event was made before the candidate’s latest statement on Muslims. Spicer did not respond to CNN’s requests for comment about Trump’s statement, however.

While many of Trump’s presidential rivals have weighed in on his call for a Muslim immigration ban, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has yet to react to the billionaire’s comments.
