I guess I’m far to the left of Democrats on immigration. I believe in open borders combined with uniformly aggressive enforcement of US labor laws and card-check unionization. Any citizen of any American nation should be free to work in the United States, at the same wage scale and tax rates of a USA citizen. Same workplace protections against discrimination, abuse, wage theft and sexual harassment. Same overtime rules. Same right to organize. Same right to earn health care benefits, retirement savings, all of it.

American businessmen hire illegal immigrants because they can pay them less, work them harder and send them packing on a moment’s notice if they don’t like it. Take away this permanent underclass of disposable workers to exploit and abuse, and the market would sort itself out fine.
