Yes, this is a real thing that is really happening. Our children will read about it, if there are still books in the future that lies before us.
And it’s not even Infrastructure Friday yet.
At this point I suppose most thinking people have gotten used to the recurring unreality of it all. It feels sad to me that we spend any time being used to it, since people like Masha Gessen encourage us to strive not to feel that. It’s not normal. Nothing about it is normal. And yet it’s a very strong human tendency to get used to almost anything. It helps you survive. But it’s a mixed blessing, that’s for goddamn sure.
