A small fight between Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Peter King (R-NY) deteriorated into weird cable news popularity contest this week.

After King called Cruz a “fraud” last week and criticized his role in the federal government shutdown last year, Cruz hit back.

“I don’t know Mr. King,” Cruz said Tuesday on CNN. “I’ve never met him. To be honest, I don’t think I had ever heard of him until he started getting on television attacking me.”

On Wednesday, CNN host Wolf Blitzer asked King to respond to Cruz.

“Maybe if he had listened to me over the years, he’d be a little smarter,” King said, according to Mediaite. “I was, I think, the third-highest Republican on national television shows last year. I’m on your show all the time.”

Take that Ted Cruz, Peter King is on TV all the time.
