Tea party favorite Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said he’s “embarrassed” that he remains undecided on whether to run for the Senate, the Des Moines Register reported Wednesday.

“There’s a lot of support to do this, and I just don’t know the answer. And I’m embarrassed that I don’t know the answer,” he said with a laugh.  He said he doesn’t know when he’ll make a decision.

Speaking to reporters after an Americans for Prosperity event in Ames, Iowa, King said he has been too busy in Congress to decide on the Senate run and that  he still needs “a little bit of time to have some conversations around the state, and a little bit around the country.” Those conversations would include questions about fundraising, as well as how to coordinate the launch of a campaign.

Even as King makes up his mind, he appears to be making moves to prepare for a run, including hiring a fundraiser who worked for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), as Yahoo News noted

The Des Moines Register reported last month that King recently hired DeLullo & Associates, a political fundraising firm based in Alexandria, Va., which has had its fingerprints on a string of victories for tea party candidates in the past few years. The boutique firm’s founder, Erin DeLullo, was a chief fundraiser during Cruz’s successful runoff campaign last year, and for Georgia Republican Rep. Tom Graves in 2010. She also raised PAC money for Kansas Rep. Tim Huelskamp’s campaign the same year, and served as the national fundraiser for Ken Cuccinelli’s attorney general campaign in 2009.
