An Oklahoma man accused of shooting his Lebanese neighbor pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and hate crime charges on Wednesday.
Stanley Vernon Majors, 61, was charged by Tulsa County prosecutors with first degree murder, possessing a firearm after a prior felony conviction, and threatening a violent act in relation to the Aug. 12 shooting of Khalid Jabara, 37. He also faces a misdemeanor count of “malicious intimidation and harassment,” Oklahoma’s version of a hate crime charge, for the years of ethnic slurs he allegedly directed at the Jabara family. Majors pleaded not guilty on all counts.
A judge appointed a public defender to represent Majors and set a preliminary hearing for Oct. 5, according to court records. He is being held in Tulsa County jail without bond and still faces felony assault charges for a separate hit-and-run attack on Khalid Jabara’s mother, Haifa, in September 2015.
He probably thought he was just making America great again.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the PD fully aware Mr. Majors possessed a firearm prior to the killing (presumably after referenced prior felony conviction)? If so, this just shows how they royally fucked up here and are at least partially at fault for the death of Khalid Jabara.
They tried negotiating with the gun, imploring it to give itself up. Once it threatened ruinously expensive litigation funded by the NRA the police figured they’d back off. It was at that point the gun decided rather than a long standoff it would go out in a blaze of glory and take someone down with it. Police did try reasoning with it, but everyone needs to remember, guns don’t kill people, people kill people. The gun is also a vctim here. Can’t we all just get along!?
But guns are darkies – and darkies are notoriously not-get-along-able.
