The Sigma Nu fraternity’s national office announced Monday that it has suspended all activities at Old Dominion University after photos of sexually suggestive banners hung from the chapter’s off-campus house surfaced this weekend.

Brad Beacham, executive director of Sigma Nu, wrote about the banners at Old Dominion University in a statement:

Sigma Nu Fraternity has suspended the activities of the Eta Chi Chapter at Old Dominion University pending completion of an investigation into offensive banners displayed from an off-campus, privately-owned property near the ODU campus last week. The fraternity condemns the derogatory and demeaning language used on the banners. Such language has no place in our fraternity or within any caring community, such as that of ODU. Any fraternity member found to be responsible for this reprehensible display will be held accountable by the fraternity.

Initially, the fraternity said no members were involved in the signs at the Norfolk, Virginia, university, but further information revealed some members may have been involved, according to the statement.

One of the banners read, “Rowdy and fun; Hope your baby girl is ready for a good time.” Another banner, hung above the front door, said, “Freshman daughter drop-off,” with another banner reading, “Go ahead and drop off mom too.”

The banners made national headlines Monday after a now-deleted Facebook photo circulated, according to The Huffington Post.

Sigma Nu has 163 active chapters.
