The Senate Conservatives Fund, arguably the most aggressive conservative outside group to target Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in the Senate primary, urged Republicans to rally together to defeat Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes on Tuesday.

The statement came shortly after McConnell and Grimes won the Republican and Democratic nominations respectively. McConnell’s win meant that he defeated Matt Bevin, who the Senate Conservatives Fund very enthusiastically boosted in trying to defeat McConnell in the primary.

“We congratulate Senator McConnell on his victory and urge Republicans in Kentucky to come together to defeat Alison Lundergan Grimes,” Senate Conservatives Fund executive director Matt Hoskins said in a statement. “We thank Matt Bevin for standing up for conservative principles and giving voters a choice in this race. Now it’s time for Republicans to unite for victory in November.”

The Senate Conservatives Fund repeatedly argued that McConnell had effectively thwarted Republican attempts to repeal Obamacare and questioned his conservative credentials.
