Fox News host and President Donald Trump supporter Sean Hannity urged the commander-in-chief on Thursday to “purge” his administration of officials left over from the Obama administration.
Hannity called on Trump to rid his administration of “holdover government bureaucrats who are hell-bent on destroying this President” and asked him to emulate President Abraham Lincoln, who Hannity said fired nearly 1,200 people, and former President Bill Clinton, who fired all U.S. attorneys.
“It’s time now for President Trump to follow Abraham Lincoln’s example and fire anyone and everyone who was actively working against him in government,” Hannity said.
Hannity reiterated the theory of a “deep state” of government insiders hell bent on taking Trump down, a theory that’s been spouted by many conservative pundits, including, most recently, Rep. Steve King (R-IA). The Fox host blamed these insiders for the leaks that have been plaguing the Trump administration.
“It’s very important for President Trump to act right now and not just avoid outrage from the left, that’s not what this is a lot about,” he said. “He’s got to stop the leaks that are plaguing the administration, major like the ones you see there on your screen, started just five days after President Trump was sworn into office.”
