Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg isn’t just Internet famous: the liberal justice is America’s most popular Supreme Court judge, a new poll finds.

The findings were part of larger national survey done by the liberal-leaning polling organization, Public Policy Polling. In the poll, participants were asked how they viewed each of the justices individually, favorably or unfavorably. They were also asked to pick their favorite and least favorite among the nine justices.

Ginsburg ranked first among the justices in the “favorite” category. When asked who was their least favorite Supreme Court judge, more Americans said Justice Clarence Thomas, the oft-silent conservative, than any other justice.

Breaking respondents down by party suggests that those results are driven by ideology. Although Thomas was the least favorite overall, 21 percent of Republicans picked him as their favorite, making him the top GOP choice. A quarter of Republicans also said Ginsburg was their least favorite — more than double the next most unpopular justice among Republicans, Justice Elena Kagan.

Likewise, Ginsburg’s popularity increased when measured among Democrats. Thirty-one percent of Democrats picked her as their favorite, compared to 19 percent who picked her overall. Nearly as many Democrats (28 percent) said Thomas was their least favorite.

Public Policy Polling surveyed 1,129 voters nationally by phone or internet between June 11th and 14th.
