Mitt Romney’s campaign spent $18.7 million in January, three times the $6.4 million in brought in. Romney began January with $19.9 million cash on hand, a lot more than the $7.7 he had at the beginning of February. The super PAC supporting Romney, Restore Our Future, spent $13.9 million in January, about twice the $6.6 million it brought in. ROF has $16 million cash on hand. Most of their spending went towards negative ads attacking Romney’s opponents. Both Romney and ROF brought in enough money in previous months that they could spend more than they raised.
