National Security Adviser Susan Rice on Sunday said that the administration supports the Ukrainian people in forming a new government.

“The United States is on the side of the Ukrainian people,” she said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Rice said that she would like to see elections and “the opportunity for the people of Ukraine to come together in a coalition unity government.”

She also warned against any involvement by Russian President Vladimir Putin and said his interference “would be a grave mistake.”

She also emphasized that Ukraine should not be partitioned.

“It’s not in the interest of Ukraine or of Russia or of Europe or of the United States to see a country split,” she said. “It’s in nobody’s interests to see violence return and the situation escalate.”
