Former Pennsylvania senator and Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum will be joining the Texas abortion fight this week.

The social conservative is slated to hold a news conference Thursday morning at the Texas state capitol in Austin to show his support of anti-abortion legislation being pushed in the state, according to CNN. The Texas legislature is currently in the middle of its second high-profile special legislative session to pass strict abortion regulations that would, in part, ban abortions after 20 weeks. The previous attempt to pass the bill was thwarted by Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis, who successfully led a more than 10-hour filibuster to prevent the bill from passing the GOP-dominated Senate before the end of the first legislative session last month.

“Rick is going to Austin this week to join those in giving a voice to the unborn,” Republican strategist and senior Santorum adviser John Branbender told CNN.
