Antivirus pioneer turned Central American outlaw John McAfee reportedly won his freedom from a Guatemalan jail cell when a judge ruled his detention there illegal, according to McAfee’s lawyer, via the Associated Press.
A McAfee surrogate known only as “Harold M.” published a several blog posts on McAfee’s official blog on Wednesday morning saying time that McAfee would be released at 9 a.m. local time (10 a.m. EST). McAfee previously stated his intention to return to the United States to seek asylum from authorities in Belize, where McAfee lived from 2008 through 2012, and where he has been sought for questioning since November 11 in the murder investigation of Gregory Faull, a man described as McAfee’s neighbor.
