Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) on Monday said House Republicans are considering all their options — including government shutdown — to secure spending cuts in the looming debt limit fight.
Asked if her constituents are willing to see the government shut down over spending cuts, Blackburn said: “Yes, they are. But they want us to be thoughtful in what is done.” Blackburn was responding to a Politico report, in which GOP officials said some House Republicans are willing to allow debt default and government shutdown if the Obama Administration doesn’t agree to steep spending cuts.
“I think that there is a way to avoid default,” Blackburn added. “If it requires shutting down certain portions of the government, let’s look at that. Let’s put these options on the table, be very thoughtful, but get this spending pattern broken.”
