Republican National Chairman Reince Preibus tweeted Thursday that Donald Trump’s meeting with House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Capitol Hill was a “positive step” toward uniting the party.

Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee, had said Sunday that he would like to see the party unify behind him, but that it was not necessary in order for him to win.

  1. So. No unity yet.

  3. Speaker Ryan has no choice here. He will support the presumptive nominee and chair the convention. My guess is that this will happen within a week. It might take a little longer. Mr. Trump will offer few concessions and emerge as Republican Number 1.

Democrats, especially insurgent Democrats, should take notice.

  4. Priebus sounds like a hostage in that tweet. Either that or he had one of his “special” bowls of cereal this morning.

  5. Does the GOP really want to unite around Trump? Seriously? If anything, they should unite against him, lose this election, but at least gain some respect that could help them longer term. As much as I think the current crop of Tea Partiers are lunatics, the country needs a sane GOP, and by ditching Trump, maybe they can make the first big step in that direction.
