Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said Tuesday morning on the floor that “we may have a way forward” on how to confirm seven pending presidential nominees to executive positions without the use of the nuclear option.
“We still have a few more i’s to dot and t’s to cross,” he said, mentioning that he still plans on talking to Vice President Joe Biden and Democratic leaders. “It is a compromise. I think we get what we want, they get what they want.”
He said he’s “confident” about its prospects and said the deal will be “good for everybody.”
Reid, speaking less than an hour before votes were set to begin on the seven nominees, credited Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who spearheaded the effort to defuse the nuclear standoff.
“John McCain is the reason we’re where we are,” he said. “No one was able to break through but him.”
