Addressing the thousands in attendance before the team’s first home game since the Boston Marathon bombings, Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz on Saturday seemed to articulate the city-wide catharsis felt after the remaining at-large suspect in the deadly blasts was captured by authorities.
After thanking Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and the city’s police force, the man known as “Big Papi” didn’t hold back.
“This is our fucking city,” Ortiz said, as the crowd erupted in applause. “And nobody gonna dictate our freedom. Stay strong. Thank you.”
