The progressive group Credo Action on Wednesday called on President Obama to resist raising the Medicare eligibility age as part of a deal to avert the so-called fiscal cliff scheduled to take effect January 1, launching a web petition encouraging members to call Democrats and insist Medicare shouldn’t be touched “under any circumstances.”
In an interview Tuesday Obama didn’t dismiss raising the Medicare eligibility age outright, but instead argued that such a course wouldn’t be cost-effective.
“When you look at the evidence it’s not clear that it actually saves a lot of money,” he told ABC’s Barbara Walters.
