Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich leads by six in a new partial poll of the South Carolina Republican primary race from Public Policy Polling (D). PPP released one night of their poll, which will be conducted from Wednesday to Friday, straddling the next GOP debate on Thursday night.

Within just Wednesday’s results, Gingrich gets 34 percent, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney sees 28 percent. The upward mobility for Gingrich has been documented in five public polls released in the last 24 hours, resulting in a .8 percent lead in our TPM Poll Average.

From PPP:

This is not a case of Romney imploding. His support has been pretty steady in the 28-30% range in our South Carolina polling so far. But Gingrich has risen from 23% to 34% over the last two weeks, benefiting from declining support for Santorum and also from undecided voters moving into his camp…“Newt Gingrich has all the momentum in South Carolina right now,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “The big question now is whether ABC’s interview with his ex-wife will stop it.”
