In another sign that Republican primary voter are excitedly supporting Donald Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from entering the US, a new poll shows the New York real estate tycoon moving into his biggest lead yet. A Washington Post/ABC News poll released Monday evening shows Trump with 38%. That’s 23 points ahead of the next runner up, Ted Cruz at 15%.

Trump’s current number is 6 points higher than in October.

Sen. Marco Rubio and Ben Carson tie for third with 12%.

Trump’s call for a ban on Muslim immigration was widely panned by US political leaders and foreign heads of state. But polls showed it was supported by a substantial majority of GOP primary voters, including many who are supporting other candidates.

This evening’s poll comes after a Monday morning Monmouth poll which also showed Trump advancing into his biggest lead yet. The Monmouth poll showed Trump with 41% support, up from 28% in October.
