Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell is enjoying some of his highest approval numbers yet as he rounds out his final year in office, a Washington Post poll found Monday. Even with the FBI investigating his close relationship with a donor, Virginians gave McDonnell high marks on both job performance and personal ethics.
Sixty-four percent of respondents approved of the job McDonnell is doing, his highest rating in Post polls since entering office, while 59 percent said the governor had “high personal moral and ethical standards” to just 16 percent who disagreed.
On Sunday, the Washington Post poll found Republican state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli ahead of Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe in November’s gubernatorial race succeed McDonnell.
The McDonnell poll, conducted between April 29-May 2, interviewed 887 registered voters and a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points.
