Poll: McConnell Has One-Point Lead In Re-election Fight

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) leads Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes by just one point in the Kentucky Senate race, according to a new poll released Wednesday.

The Public Policy Polling survey, conducted for Americans United For Change, found McConnell with 45 percent support to Grimes with 44 percent support. Eleven percent, meanwhile, said they were undecided.

The poll also found McConnell with an approval rate of 37 percent while 57 percent of voters disapprove.

The poll’s findings are some of the tightest since the race began.

Broken down by party affiliation, the poll found that 74 percent of Republicans support McConnell while 12 percent said they supported Grimes. Among Democrats 67 percent support Grimes while 23 percent support McConnell. Ten percent of Democrats said they were undecided. Similarly 13 percent of Republicans said they were undecided.

Among Independents, McConnell gets 49 percent of those surveyed while Grimes gets 38 percent, the poll found. Thirteen percent said they were undecided.
