The football teams of Ohio State and Virginia Tech universities placed stickers on their helmets for their season opener on Monday night that honored the two journalists shot and killed on live television last month.

The sticker had the initials of WDBJ journalists Alison Parker and Adam Ward alongside crossed ribbons in teal (Parker’s favorite color) and maroon for Ward, who graduated from Virginia Tech in 2011.

Ohio State is well known for the Buckeye stickers players earn for big plays on the field but both teams’ helmets were clean for the start of the season.

The Buckeyes beat the Hokies 42-24.

Stickers on helmets. That’s the way America honors it’s dead from gun violence.
